Hi Human. Unclench your jaw. Breathe.
In this museletter: on sorrow, birthdays, earth days, throwing balls and more…

Yaaron, (‘friends’ in Hindi, think pals!)
Four things worth sharing are:
1. A quote from Bell Hooks that is helping me navigate the present time.
"To be loving is to be open to grief, to be touched by sorrow, even sorrow that is unending" (All About Love, Bell Hooks)
Also, https://dontcallthepolice.com offers community based alternatives to police listed by city if you find yourself needing help. And here is an Anti-Asian Racism: Manager Resource Guide.

2. I turned 33 last week. Being alive feels like a privilege.
I know I am getting older (wiser?!) because I had no desire to celebrate my birthday. Instead, I felt like sending silent gifts, wishes and joyful tokens to others. Below is a rendition of my poem on belongingness and identity for all of you on the occasion of my 33rd year being in an earth body. PS: I will always have a heart-mind that oscillates between 6 years old and an 80- year-old. 🤷🏾♀️

3. Don’t say Happy Earth Day to me, please. Seriously.
Earth day is coming up on the 22nd. Like my own life, earth day is not worth celebrating for just one day, but through conscious choices one makes to live in harmony- a celebration of life’s worth every day. Yvon Chouinard says in one of my favorite movies, 180 Degree South - “The hardest thing in the world is to simplify your life. It’s so easy to make it complex. What’s important is leading an examined life.” This lesson came to me while traveling in Peru. You can read about it here. This quote also reminds me of the planeteers in the cartoon show Captain Planet. I am a self-proclaimed planeteer since I saw that show in middle school while growing up in India. 🦸🏾 Did any of you see this show? Are you a planeteer too?

4. No one is a bad ball thrower.
I was out for a playdate with a friend, and we were Parkouring (well he was-- I was-- just rolling around ungracefully) at the Mid Century Monster at Lake Merritt. Soon a 5-6 years old girl and a boy of the same age showed up, and it became a merry group of four. We were jumping around like a group of humans who enjoyed playing. And then, we found a ball! We started throwing the ball at each other. As I handed the ball to the girl for her turn, she said something that shattered my heart into a million pieces. She said and I quote, “I am not a good ball thrower.”

To me, that statement symbolizes so much of what is needed to renew the future; the need for rewriting the belief that we are somehow deficient in some way. Adults or peers, based on some standard they learnt at some point, told us-- you don't write well-- you don't sing well-- you don't throw well; you are not pretty enough; man enough, etc, etc.... Thus begins our work to carry the burden of a limiting belief while attempting sincerely to live our best lives. Please allow me to emphasize this, dear expeditioner-- You can do anything-- Your best is the best ‘best’ out there. No comparison needed. I, therefore, want to set the record straight - NOBODY is a bad ball thrower.

Five things worth sharing this month are: 1. No feeling is final. I have been stuck with the museletter. Hi Human. You are Awesome! In this museletter: mistakes, salary negotiation, desire, and more… Oakland/Ohlone Territory, CA, USA | Thursday, March 18th, 2021 Yaaron (‘friends’ in Hindi, think pals!), the three things worth sharing are: 1. Procrastination can be fear in disguise Since my last expedition, I have spent a lot of time in terror. Terror of ‘why the heck did I put myself to this task?’ Why so much creative angst? Because I found the following in my last museletter: This mistake was...
Hi Human. You are doing great! In this museletter: citizenship, love, black futures and more… Oakland/Ohlone Territory, CA, USA | Monday, February 22, 2021 Yaaron, (‘friends’ in Hindi, think pals!) There are basically three things on my mind these days: Love, Citizenship & Creativity. The four things I am learning are: 1. Love is the only question worth answering forever. Recent life events have dismantled every notion I held about what love is. After 32 years, 3 long-term romantic...
